Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida
Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida was created in 1987 by a group of concerned citizens who noted a growing problem of homelessness in the community. The Coalition is now the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida. They help transform the lives of homeless men, women and children by providing crucial services to end their crisis of homelessness. Their goal is to return their residents to self-sufficiency through counseling, job training, and educational programs. While their clients work to reestablish productive lives, Coalition for the Homeless provides transitional housing and daycare for their children until they are ready to move back into the community.
Why we like them: Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is a part of our community and we like to help support the homeless in the area in which we live. We feel so very blessed to have a thriving business and home, but realize many are not so fortunate.
Habitat for Humanity
A decent home provides the strength, stability and independence that families need, and Habitat for Humanity’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat homeowners pay an affordable mortgage, receive financial education and help build their homes alongside volunteers.
Habitat for Humanity is a partnership, not a giveaway program—Habitat’s homeowner families buy the houses that Habitat builds and renovates. Habitat homeowners also invest hundreds of hours of their own labor working alongside volunteers.
Why we like them: When people work for something themselves, they are invested in the project and take pride in their accomplishments. Invested people are empowered to continue to do things they might otherwise have never done. They maintain their homes, pay their mortgages and approach life in a new way.
